Trek Kilimanjaro
Ray Edwards, the Chairman of Limbcare, and a team of friends and fellow amputees have recently returned from a seven-day climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5,895 metres is one of the world’s highest freestanding mountains. The 56-year-old, who lives in Sandhurst, hoped the challenge would help raise awareness of amputees and funds for his recently founded charity.
Ray, a construction manager who, through the aid of three prosthetic limbs and one hi-tech I-limb, has previously completed the Wokingham Bikeathon and piloted a plane. He and the 24-man team, which included physiotherapists, doctors and six other amputees, jetted out to Africa in early September.
Using the left hand navigation you can read about the progress Ray made by looking through his journal and learning about the route he took, as he made the long, hard climb up Mount Kilimanjaro and journeyed all the way back down again.
